DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) is an evidenced based therapy that was created in the 1980’s by Marsha Linehan, Ph.D. DBT is based on principles of cognitive behavioral therapy and Buddhist psychology. While originally created to treat suicidality and borderline personality disorder, it has been highly researched and found to be effective for other conditions that cause emotion dysregulation such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, substance abuse, and impulse control disorders. Our comprehensive adult outpatient DBT program is for individuals 16 years and older. DBT has four skills components which include mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotion regulation.
The components of comprehensive DBT includes:
- Individual therapy (typically on a weekly basis) that targets multiple problems with effective treatments within the DBT structure
- Skills training class (typically in a group on a weekly basis)
- Between-session consultation with your therapist
- Therapist consultation team
- Family meetings as needed
In DBT the standard commitment is usually for a one year term. A single “round” of DBT takes six months to complete, and many people find completing a second round helps consolidate their learning. The length of treatment will be discussed with you when we meet you, and can be adjusted at any time depending on your progress. Your therapist will carefully tailor your treatment plan to you.
Our DBT comprehensive program does not accept insurance. Our year-long program is self-payment at $1,800 a month due on the 1st. This includes meeting 1 time a week for individual DBT psychotherapy for one hour, in the moment DBT skills coaching between sessions with a therapist, and weekly DBT skills groups. We do not provide super bills for this service.
